Costello Kennedy Landscape Architecture recently completed the design of the Cultural Education Trail for the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska. The site is located at the Ponca Agency where the annual pow-wow is held. It is also a destination on the National Parks Service Louis and Clark Trail. The project was developed to educate tribal members and the general public about the culturally significant elements of the Tribe’s traditional way of life. The scope of the project included the restoration of the site’s native ecosystems, developing an accessible trail with interpretive signage, and special features such as an amphitheater, outdoor classroom, traditional earth lodge, play area, and entry kiosk.
